A chain-smoking professor of mine once challenged his class of eager young film students. He asked,"What makes a successful director or producer?" He was infuriated as no one had an immediate answer. "Come on, this is easy", he said. "What makes a successful producer or director?" Some one offered, "A big budget?" Another student replied, "Someone who gets a great script?" The professor scoffed. He said, "If you remember one thing from your time here at Temple University, remember this. If you produce things that you like, things that excite you, and a lot of other people like it too, you'll be successful. If you produce things that you like, things that excite you, and no one else really likes 'em - find yourself another career kid."
